The Switch Items tool allows you to replace items in your design with equivalent items from another catalog. This can be useful when updating projects, changing catalog versions, or adjusting item availability.
To open the Switch Items tool, go to the top bar in Design and navigate to Items > Switch Items.
Switching methods overview
Switch Items Automatically, where Design attempts to find equivalent items automatically
Switch Items Manually, where the user selects the replacement item one by one
Select the method below that best fits your workflow.
Before switching items
- The Switch Items tool can be used to replace items using different catalogs, but it is recommended to use it mainly to update projects to newer versions of the same catalog. Switching items between different catalogs will often result in many items not being matched or replaced.
- Even when switching within the same catalog, some cabinets may not have a valid match in the newer version. This is expected and can occur with both modified and unmodified items.
Step 1: Select the current catalog
In the Switch Items dialog box, select the catalog that contains the items you want to replace from the Currently used catalogs list.
The items from the selected catalog will appear in the grid on the left, displaying the User code and Description.
Step 2: Select the replacement catalog
In the Available catalogs list, select the catalog that will be used to replace the items.
Enable Show all catalogs if you need access to catalogs from other industries. If this check box is cleared, only the catalogs corresponding to the industry catalog selected in the Currently used catalogs list are accessible
Step 3: Define how item matching will work
Enable Search by User code first to prioritize matching by user code, followed by link code.
Disable this option if you prefer the search to prioritize link code first.
Step 4: Perform the automatic switch
Click Automatic to replace all listed items.
To replace only specific items, select them first and then click Automatic.
Review the results in the Switched items tab.
Click Apply to confirm without closing the dialog box.
Click OK to confirm and close the dialog box.
You can optionally delete items from your design either before or after switching them, directly within the Switch Items window:
Select one item or use SHIFT or CTRL to select multiple items in the grid.
Click Delete and confirm when prompted.
Note: this process will delete the items permanently from the floorplan.
