Managing Installation Points in Design Flex

 

Installation Points in Design Flex can be configured in two different ways depending on where they are set:

  • Design Charges → Applies globally to the entire design
  • Catalog Charges → Applies per catalog

Understanding where and how to configure these values is key to ensuring accurate pricing in your quotes.

 

Option 1: Set Installation Points at the Design Level (Design Charges)

This option applies installation points globally across the entire design.

Steps

  1. Open your design in Design Flex
  2. Navigate to Design Charges
  3. Select your Installation Points
  4. Enter the value in the correct field:
    • Value × Inst. Points
  5. Confirm a Price Level is selected
  6. Save and test your design

Key Notes

  • This method impacts the entire design
  • Ensure values are entered in the correct calculation field
  • Missing Price Level may prevent correct pricing

 

Option 2: Set Installation Points per Catalog 

Defined at the catalog level and managed by catalog creators, with a valid Catalog Tools license required for configuration and updates.

This option allows you to define installation points per catalog item (e.g., cabinets).

Example

  • Base Cabinets = 1 point
  • Wall Cabinets = 2 points

These points determine installation cost in your quote.

 

Steps

  1. Close Design Flex / 20-20 Design
  2. From the Shortcut Bar, open Catalog Tools (3rd icon)
  3. Click Edit/Create a Catalog
  4. Go to the Spreadsheet tab
  5. Select:
    • Catalog → Load Catalog
    • Choose the catalog to update
    • Click Load Set
  6. In the Variables Set window:
    • Select Dispatch Variables
    • Choose (Quantity) Install Point Count
    • Click OK
  7. In the spreadsheet:
    • Locate column (Quantity) Install Point Count
    • Enter values for items (e.g., Base & Wall Cabinets)
  8. Save the spreadsheet

 

Alternative Approach

  • Set all installation points to 1
  • Example: If 1 point = $10 → all cabinets will receive a $10 installation charge

 

⚠️ Important Considerations

  • Installation points set in Catalog Tools are unique per catalog
  • Installation points set in Design Charges override globally
  • Always verify:
    • Correct input field (Value × Inst. Points)
    • Correct Price Level
    • Catalog vs Design configuration

 

Summary
