The settings that you assign in the Wall/Construction Lines pane become the default settings for all new designs that you create. To change the dimensions of individual designs, see Change the properties of a group, wall or section.
Use the Walls/Construction Lines pane to assign default wall dimensions, wall types, and a default window and door.
Complete the following steps to define wall and construction line settings:
- In the FILE menu, select Preferences.
-
In the Preferences dialog box, select the Walls/Construction Lines pane.
- In the Draw Mode pane, select One-Sided or Two-Sided from the Default mode list. This selection determines whether a wall/construction line has an inside placement zone only or both an inside and an outside placement zone when a wall/construction line is drawn using the Wall/Construction Line tools. Refer to One-sided and two-sided walls/construction lines to see examples of one-sided and two-sided walls/construction lines.
- In the Draw Mode pane, select the Start a new design in check box to start drawing continuous walls/construction lines or access the pick tool cursor (no action) when starting a new design. When you enable this option, you can also choose to draw one-sided or two-sided walls/construction lines.
- In the Draw Mode pane, select the Draw walls using 90 degree angles check box to limit angles to 90 degrees when drawing walls. By default, the program draws walls in 45-degree increments, which is also known as Ortho mode.
- Enter a default thickness for the walls and the construction lines in the Wall Thickness and Construction Line Thickness fields. You can also use the arrow buttons to set your dimensions.
- Enter a default Wall Height.
- In the Wall-mounted Item Alignment field, enter the height at which the top of wall and tall cabinets will align.
- In the Walls/construction lines field of the Placement Zone Depth pane, enter the space available on a wall, construction line, or panel.
Complete the following steps to set the default door and default window that will be placed on the design when adding a basic door or basic window:
- Click the Browse button in the Basic Door and/or Basic Window panel to open the Openings & Obstacles dialog box.
- Navigate to and select the door model that you want to use as the default and then click Select. The Openings & Obstacles dialog box closes.
- In the Width field, type the door or window width in feet and inches. You can also use the left arrows to change the width by one-inch increments and the right arrows to change the width by fractional increments. If you leave the width as "0," you will be prompted to set the width when drawing the basic door or window on the Floor Plan.
-
Select existing elevation on double-click. When this check box is selected, 2020 Design does not trigger a new Elevation tab if you double-click on the placement zone more than once. The application refers to the original one that you opened and displays it once.
- Click OK to confirm your choices.
