It can be helpful to have a legend displaying items used in your design, it lists the items added to the design and is numbered the same as the Plan or Elevation of the design. The legend can be generated in the Legend tab of the Display Settings, where you can choose how much detail you want displayed.
From version 14.10, the Legend feature supports cloud catalogs, automatically including them in legends. Legend display settings recognize both cloud and file-based catalogs. The catalog selection list is dynamically filtered to show only catalogs used in the current design and preferences and display options for cloud items now behave consistently with file-based content.
How to access the legend tab
- Load an existing design or create a new design.
- Right-click on the frame or floor plan and select Legend.
- The Display Settings for Legend dialog box opens.
The legend tab explained
In the Legend tab, you can select different options that you want to include in the legend. There are four main areas where selections can be made:
Pane 1 Label Display Settings
No Legend: Disables the legend for the current view (Display tab).
Automatic legend: Displays floor plan or elevation numbering and the configured legend for all items in the selected catalog(s).
Selected object(s): Displays numbering and the configured legend for items that you manually select in the "Categories" pane. in the example below all legend display references have been selected:
Keep numbering: Enables you to keep track of the order in which you place items on the plan and enables you to move or hide items in a legend. This also prevents the loss of the numbering order when an item is deleted from the legend. For example, if you have three units labeled 1, 2 and 3 and you delete or hide unit 2, unit 3 will keep label 3. Note: If the Keep numbering option was not selected, cabinet 3 would become cabinet 2.
Important: If the Keep Numbering check box is greyed out, you need to enable it by clearing the Use same item number in all views check box in the Legend section of the Preferences dialog box:
- In the File menu, select Preferences.
In the Preferences dialog box, select the Legend pane.
Select the Use same item number in all views check box. Click OK.
Pane 2 Legend Display References
In the Legend Display References pane, select the references that you want to include in the legend. The options are: User Code, Manufacturer Code, Floor Plan description, Price.
Pane 3 Catalogs
In the Catalogs pane, select the check boxes for the catalog(s) to include in the legend.
Pane 4 Label Categories
In the Categories pane, click the plus (+) sign beside a category and select the specific subcategories and items that you want to include in the legend.
Numbering representation for the legend items and add-ons
When you assign add-ons to items, the default numbering representation for the legend items and their add-ons is shown in the example below. Add-ons are displayed under their respective items and numbers are enumerated in a nested list.
If you wish to have add-ons displayed at the same level as other items, go to File > Preferences > Legend and clear the check box Display Add-Ons under corresponding item.
